The Black Mesa Coal Slurry Pipeline

Inside the Slurry Preparation Plant, coal is crushed to pipeline size in a two-step process.  The first step is a dry grind using a cage mill, and the final grind is accomplished with a rod mill.  In the rod mill, coal is mixed with water and reduced to a maximum size of about 1 mm.  After grinding, final mixing and quality control occurs in four slurry mixing tanks.
